Candice P. Chu, DVM, PhD, DACVP, is a board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at Texas A&M University. Her work focuses on veterinary artificial intelligence, digital cytology, diagnostic AI, large language models, and AI education.
She earned her DVM from National Taiwan University, then completed a PhD in veterinary pathobiology and a residency in veterinary clinical pathology at Texas A&M University, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2021. Before returning to Texas A&M in 2024, she served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Chu develops and evaluates AI methods for veterinary diagnostics—from lymphoid cell classification in cytology images to structured data extraction from clinical records—while building curricula that prepare veterinary students and professionals to use AI responsibly. Her molecular work pursues non-invasive microRNA biomarkers for chronic kidney disease in dogs and cats, connecting companion-animal nephrology to human disease through a One Health lens.
She co-chairs the ACVP Pathology Informatics Committee, serves on the AVMA Task Force on Emerging Technologies and Innovation, the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges AI Working Group, and the Texas A&M University AI Steering Committee.
