Artificial intelligence–based detection of small and intermediate-to-large lymphocytes for cytologic diagnosis of canine lymphoma

Trained YOLOv11 to identify individual lymphocytes in smartphone photomicrographs of canine lymph node aspirates, using 25,761 annotated cells across 680 images from 34 intermediate-to-large B-cell lymphoma and 11 non-lymphoma aspirates. Merging intermediate and large lymphocytes into a single label improved cell-level classification, reaching 87.60% average precision, 84.71% average recall, mAP50 of 89.33% and an F1 score of 86.02% on the independent test set, with correct diagnoses inferred for every test aspirate.
